Overview
Snow, Christensen & Martineau is more than a group of lawyers, law clerks, paralegals, secretaries, and staff persons. It is a Utah institution founded in 1886 in Provo, Utah, ten years before Utah became a state.
The Firm began as a partnership between Samuel Richard Thurman and George Sutherland. Mr. Thurman was admitted to the Utah State Bar in 1878. He was a prominent member of the Constitutional Convention of 1895 and served as Chief Justice of the Utah Supreme Court.
His partner, George Sutherland, was admitted to the Utah Bar in 1883, was elected to Congress as a Republican in 1900 and to the United States Senate in 1905. He later became an Associate Justice to the United States Supreme Court.
The Firm moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1906 under the name of Thurman, Wedgewood & Irvine and continued thereafter under various names. Since 1976, it has been known as Snow, Christensen & Martineau.
Distinguished alumni of the Firm include, in addition to Justices Thurman and Sutherland, Utah Supreme Court Justice and United States Senator William H. King, Dean Samuel R. Thurman of the University of Utah College of Law, President of Lions International D. A. Skeen, District Court Judges Scott Daniels and Pamela Heffernan, former United States Attorney for the District of Utah and now United States District Court Chief Judge Dee V. Benson, Deputy Attorney General of the United States Harold G. Christensen, four Utah State Bar Presidents and six Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Throughout its history, the Firm has been committed to providing quality legal services at a reasonable fee considering the benefit to the client of the services provided.
